EKU Resource Management Crew Coordinator

Job Description

The primary job purpose is to develop a trained workforce in resource management to assist state, federal, and non-governmental agencies and by recruiting and training EKU students. The position is part of a larger project funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Federation. The Resource Management Crew Coordinator will work closely with supervisors to ensure smooth implementation of student crews for resource management on EKU properties and on agency land, primarily owned by the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves, Kentucky Natural Lands Trust, and the US Forest Service. This position will organize, direct, and conduct field operations, organize, promote, and run training workshops, and maintain tools and equipment. The incumbent will also assist in information management, report writing, and other clerical needs of the grant.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to resource management is required.Master’s degree in a discipline related to resource management is preferred.

Experience: One year of experience with land management required.Experience leading resource crews preferred.

Licensure & Certifications: Certifications in pesticide application, wildland or prescribed fire, and chainsaw use are required and may be obtained after time of hire.

Job Duties:

  • 50% - Coordinates the recruitment, training, and placement of students as part of resource management crews. - (Essential)

  • 25% - Directs field-based activities of resource management crews. - (Essential)

  • 15% - Maintains equipment/tool inventory and condition. - (Essential)

  • 5% - Serves as liaison between EKU and state, federal, and non-governmental resource management agencies. - (Essential)

  • 5% - Supports Center functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned. - (Essential)

Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending upon the needs of the unit, available sponsorship budget, and the qualifications of the candidate.
