The Fish and Wildlife Technician II performs technical work in fishery management of fish inventory efforts on the Ohio River and other warm-water rivers and streams.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assists biologist(s) with field data collections using standardized fisheries methods and appropriate gear types. Includes trailering boat, launching boat, and driving boat.
Operates and maintains all project equipment including boats, trailers, vehicles, trap nets, hoop nets, gill nets, trot lines and other sampling equipment and prepares for field use. Assist in design and fabrication of equipment as needed.
Performs data entry and results compilations. Assist biologist with aging fish, making tables and figures for reports while adhering to standardized methods.
Assist other fisheries staff with population studies, habitat improvement work, fish harvest and fish transport. This includes using equipment such as boats, gill nets, hoop nets, trotlines, fish hauling trucks, and construction equipment.
Initiates purchases as directed following state and agency policies and procedures. Assist in maintaining project inventories of equipment used to complete job task.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Interacts professionally with the public at boat shows, state fairs, and when on the water.

Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have one year of fishery, wildlife or habitat management/development experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional related training will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in fisheries, wildlife or habitat management/development will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Travel, extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment and wildlife may pose hazards.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111
Compensation
Pay Grade10
Salary $2,166.62 - $3,209.70 Monthly
