Job Description

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Teaching and Learning, Division of Academic Program Standards, has an opening for an Educational Academic Program Consultant – Secondary Science position, in Franklin County. This position is for up to 220 days annually.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide support through the development of resources in the implementation of the Kentucky Academic Standards for Science (KAS).Develop resources to support the implementation of the KAS for Science. Under general direction, provide consultative services and technical assistance to local school systems personnel, classroom teachers and other state and private agencies in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating standards implementation within science.Work with internal and external partners to support the implementation of the KAS for Science.Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in education or a related field.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:

At least five years of professional experience in the field of education. The applicant must also have experience with teaching science at secondary level.

EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:

None.


EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:

Current Rank II or Rank I certification by the Kentucky Department of Education or Education Professional Standards Board will substitute for the required educational requirement. Additional professional experience in the field of education will substitute for the required educational requirement on a year for year basis.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):

This is a Frankfort based position so applicants would need to be able to commute to the KDE during the work week. 


Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check. 


Applicants currently under contract with a local school district are required to provide a written release from their superintendent prior to an offer of employment will be given. 


NOTE: This position is eligible for consideration for a hybrid schedule that allows for a combination of in-office and approved alternative work scheduling. The agency may terminate or modify the telecommuting arrangement at any time.


NOTE: This position will be filled through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). The applicant selected for this position must be an employee of a Kentucky local school district or institution of higher education.
