Seedleaf is a community gardening and farming organization located in Lexington KY. Seedleaf operates 10 community garden locations in North Lexington and two farm sites: the Seedleaf Community Farm and Headwater Farm.

Job Description

The student intern will report to the Seedleaf Farm Assistant, Em J Parsley and Farm Manager Megan Pillsbury. Work will take place primarily at Seedleaf’s Headwater Farm.

  • Applicant must be a current college or high school student

    • Per federal requirements, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • The intern needs to have their own form of transportation to and from Seedleaf’s Headwater farm location.

  • The intern needs to be able to handle basic machinery (mowers, and weed whackers)

  • The intern needs to be able to lift up to 30lbs. at a minimum

  • The intern will need to be comfortable spending full days outdoors during summer and late spring.

  • The intern is required to dress respectfully and responsibly. This includes, ensuring that you report to work with sun protection, wearing clothing that safely covers the skin (no decolletage or midriffs showing) , and closed toed shoes.

  • Applicants will receive a background check before being hired.


The start date for this position is May 5th, 2026.

Requirements

This position requires a commitment of 30 hours per week for 12 weeks (360 hours). The pay

rate is $15/hour.

How to Apply

  • Assist the farm team with management of Headwater Farm orchard

  • Remove invasive species from the riparian and buffer areas of the farm

  • Monitor nesting migratory birds and beaver habits

  • Plant native tree species in farm buffer zones

  • Catalogue native plant species at Headwater and their prevalence

  • Create educational printed material about Headwater Farm

  • Manage mushroom cultivation with the farm team

  • Assist the farm team with the propagation of edible, medicinal, native and beneficial perennials

  • Assist the farm team with planting, cultivation and harvesting of fruit and vegetable crops

  • Weekly mowing and weedwhacking is required
