
Bluegrass Greensource was formed in 2001 to provide environmental education and resources that equip and empower Central Kentuckians to ensure clean, healthy, and enjoyable environments. We currently have a staff of 7 who are dedicated to environmental education and outreach about water quality, waste reduction, and energy efficiency. We focus on facilitating preK-12, business, and adult education in Central Kentucky.
In 2024, Bluegrass Greensource took over management of Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary at 1305 Germany Road, Frankfort. Buckley sits on 375 acres and has a Nature Center, Pavilion, Bird Blind, two ponds, and over six miles of hiking trails. The space also houses the Bluegrass Greensource offices.

Job Description
Be a current high school student
Per federal requirements, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
Attended a high school where 80% or more of students receive free/reduced lunch, or
Live in a disadvantaged community (as identified by the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool).
Interest in forestry and/or agriculture-related careers
Have your own transportation and valid drivers license
Strong computer skills
Availability: Mid-May through August - up to 30 hours per week (12 weeks total)

How to Apply
Assist in maintaining and expanding the current trail system.
Assist with invasive species removal.
Work with volunteers on a variety of projects including general sanctuary maintenance and invasive species removal.
Work with the Friends of Buckley group to create and implement land management strategies,
Plan and execute new learning opportunities such as rain gardens, compost demonstrations and riparian buffers.
This internship opportunity is offered in partnership with the Kentucky Association for Environmental Education (KAEE).
