Blackeyed Susan is a 2–3 ft tall native biennial or short-lived perennial that may bloom in the first year when planted in early spring. It produces bright yellow, 2–3 inch flowers with a dark center, blooming in late spring through summer.

This plant grows well in dry to moist soils with full sun or part shade and tolerates a wide range of soil types (except poorly drained soils). It’s widely used in gardens, wildflower meadows, and conservation plantings for erosion control and wildlife habitat and is native across most of the lower 48 states.
