Common Milkweed is a native perennial that grows 3–6 feet tall with fragrant, showy clusters of lavender to pink flowers. It’s drought tolerant, grows in dry, rocky, or moist soils, and prefers full sun.

It can spread easily, so it’s best for meadows, prairies, and butterfly gardens rather than small garden borders. Common Milkweed is a key plant for pollinator conservation and an important host plant for Monarch caterpillars.
