K-12 Academic Standards and EE

This course is designed to help educators understand academic standards from different content areas and apply those standards when planning lessons and curricula for school-age audiences.

Modules and Objectives

Module 1

Overview of Academic Standards


Module 2

Science Academic Standards


Modules 3 & 4

Choose two: English/Language Arts Standards, Mathematics Standards, Social Studies Standards, or Additional Standards (Art, Music, Health, and Physical Education)

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of academic standards and their role within the educational system.

  • Describe the components of the academic standards in at least 3 different content areas (Science and your choice of English/Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, or Additional Standards in Visual Arts, and Health and Physical Education.

  • Compare and contrast national academic standards with the same state standards.

  • Use the academic standards to illustrate the interdisciplinary nature of environmental education.

  • Demonstrate how these academic standards correlate with environmental education.
